Academic Leader | Chemical Engineer | Researcher
Welcome to my website. My work brings together chemical engineering research, teaching and academic leadership. Here, you can explore my academic journey, research publications, institutional responsibilities and public engagements.
Since 1991
An overview of my academic and professional journey at Jadavpur University and beyond.
I am Prof. (Dr.) Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University and a Professor of Chemical Engineering. My academic journey at Jadavpur University began in 1991, with work spanning teaching, research and university administration.
My research interests include membrane separation, water and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, green technologies and nanomaterials. I have served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Registrar and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Jadavpur University, and as President of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
My academic and professional journey has been closely associated with Jadavpur University, where I joined as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering on 24 June 1991. I became a Reader in 2000 and a Professor in 2005, and assumed office as Vice-Chancellor on 3 November 2025.
I completed my Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours at Jadavpur University in 1989, followed by an M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1991. I received my Ph.D. in Engineering from Jadavpur University in 1998.
Alongside teaching and research, I have served as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Registrar, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University. I have also served as President of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
My research focuses on membrane separation processes, water and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, green technologies, and the synthesis and application of nanomaterials. My work also includes the recovery of useful products from waste streams and processes that support environmental sustainability.
International collaboration has been an important part of my research. I have worked with partners in France and Australia and participated in Indo-Korean, Indo-Norwegian, Indo-Bulgarian and European Union-supported research projects. My work has also involved projects supported by AICTE, DST, DBT and UGC, alongside industrial consultancy.
Teaching, research supervision and academic exchange remain central to my work. I have supervised postgraduate and doctoral researchers and delivered invited lectures, keynote addresses and specialist courses in India and abroad.
My academic journey has combined chemical engineering education and research with responsibilities in university administration and school education.
